Tea Tree Oil for Ringworm: Natural Remedy No1

The use of tea tree oil for ringworm is a natural way to get rid of skin fungus. Ringworm according to Wikipedia is a skin fungus occurring anywhere on the body. It causes ring-shaped red rashes. There are several types of ringworm, for example, scalp ringworm and jock itch. Oil derived from the Australian tea tree Melaleuca alternifolia has antifungal and antimicrobial properties so it can help you get rid of a ringworm infection.

Antifungal properties of tea tree oil

Tea tree oil contains terpinen-4-ol primarily responsible for the healing function of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil can combat tinea, or ringworm, tinea unguium, or nail fungus, tinea pedis, or athlete’s foot, as well as yeast infections. The National Institutes of Health  state that there are researches proving tea tree oil’s effectiveness for treating nail fungus and athlete’s foot. However, there is insufficient evidence to support tea tree oil’s use for all varieties of ringworm.

Evidence of effectiveness

Although there is not enough research carried out to prove the effectiveness of tea tree oil for ringworm this oil is widely-used for ringworm treatment. There were researches on tea tree oil for tinea pedis, a type of ringworm. The application of a 50 percent tea tree oil solution for treating athlete’s foot for 4 weeks leaded to cure of 64 percent of participants.

Application

It is possible to use a 25% tea tree oil solution for ringworm and a 50% solution. Dilute tea tree oil with carrier oil, olive oil or coconut oil. Apply twice per day during a month.

Warning

Tea tree oil may cause adverse skin reactions. Before using it, apply several drops to your skin and wait for 24 hours. Make sure that you experience no side effects of tea tree oil. Never ingest tea tree oil. It is toxic if swallowed.   Even if you use tea tree oil for ringworm infection, consult your doctor because tea tree oil sometimes insufficiently clears the infection.
